Questioning is a huge part of my own classroom but working with my own kids has been a great mirror for me. I missed a few opportunities with my son here. See if you can pick them out.
The video reminded me of Van Hiele's Levels of Geometric Reasoning. Does your son have the previous experiences of looking at the angles and sides and connecting it to similarity? I can't wait to do it with my son (4) to see what he says.
He just finished the second grade but I don't think they did much in the way of similarity. I loved how he called it a "regular" triangle naturally. Listening to his vocabulary was fascinating. I wasn't as prepared for this investigation as I would have liked. 8 year olds aren't my normal clientele. Recognizing what they're ready for is a challenge.
